Getting started
Which app should I download?
Dab Hand is on
Google
Play for Android and on the
App Store for iPhone. Same app, same
account, same subscription — sign in on either.
Do I have to set anything up first?
No. Sign in and add a job. If you want quotes and invoices to carry your
branding, put your trading name, logo and bank details into Settings → Business details
first — it takes a couple of minutes and then every document you send is right.
What's the free plan?
Standard is free and covers up to 10 work orders a month, with the
calendar, customer book, quotes, job reports, all six themes, archive and biometric lock.
Professional removes the job limit and adds invoicing, time tracking and team seats.
Jobs, quotes and invoices
A quote I sent hasn't turned into a job
Quotes create a draft job with no due date, and show on the calendar as an
amber outlined pill marked "not booked". It only becomes a booked job once you mark the
quote accepted — then it takes a date and is shared with any crew attached to it.
Invoicing is greyed out
Invoicing is a Professional feature. If you're on Professional and it's
still unavailable, check whether the job has already been invoiced, and — if you're a team
member rather than the owner — whether your role includes paperwork rights.
The invoice doesn't show my logo or bank details
Those come from Settings → Business details. Add your trading name, upload
a logo and enter the bank details you want on invoices, then create the invoice again —
documents pick up whatever's saved at the moment they're generated.
What is Quote Express and how do I switch it on?
It's a private address that turns enquiries from your website or inbox into
quotes waiting in the app. It's off by default — turn it on in Settings, and you'll see an
amber banner until you do, because nothing is received while it's off. Treat the address
like a password: anyone who has it can create enquiries in your account. You can
regenerate it or switch the feature off at any time.
Accounting software
How do I connect QuickBooks?
Go to Settings → Accounting software and tap
Connect QuickBooks. You'll sign in to Intuit directly in your browser, so
Dab Hand never sees your QuickBooks password. Once you're back, choose which QuickBooks
item and VAT codes your invoices should use — that decides where the money lands in
your accounts, so it's worth getting right before you send the first one. Connecting is
available to the account owner on a Professional subscription.
How do I disconnect QuickBooks?
Open Settings → Accounting software and tap
Disconnect. That's it — we immediately withdraw our access at
Intuit's end and delete the stored connection from our servers. Deleting your Dab Hand
account does the same thing automatically.
You can also revoke access from the QuickBooks side, under your Intuit account's
connected apps. If you do that, Dab Hand will notice the next time it tries to send
something and will show a Reconnect button rather than failing quietly.
Disconnecting is not an undo. Invoices already sent to QuickBooks stay
in your books, exactly as they should — they're your records. If you want one
removed, do it in QuickBooks. Disconnecting only stops anything further being sent, and
stops us checking whether your invoices have been paid.
What does Dab Hand actually send to QuickBooks?
Only invoices you choose to send, and only when you tap send. Each one
carries its number and date, your customer's name, address and email, the line
descriptions and amounts, the VAT treatment and the totals. If we can't match your
customer to one already in QuickBooks, we create them. We never delete anything in your
books, and we never record a payment in them — marking an invoice paid in Dab Hand
changes the app, not your accounts.
How does Dab Hand know an invoice has been paid?
When you open your invoice list, we ask QuickBooks whether the invoices we
sent there have been settled, and mark them paid if so. Nothing runs in the background, so
the list shows when it last checked and gives you a Check now button. You
can always mark an invoice paid yourself — and if you do, that decision sticks: we
won't overwrite it from QuickBooks afterwards.
Your crew
How do I add someone to my team?
Team → add a member, on Professional. Each person needs their own Dab Hand
account with their own email address; don't share a login. You then give them a role that
sets what they can see and do — including whether prices are visible to them.
A crew member can't see prices, or can't complete a job
That's their role. Open Team, tap the role and switch on the permissions
you want them to have — see prices, create jobs, edit jobs, share jobs, complete jobs and
send quotes. Changes apply next time they refresh.
Someone's left. What happens to their jobs?
Suspend or vacate their seat from the Team screen. The jobs, customers and
invoices stay with the business — only their access goes. If they later delete their own
Dab Hand account, that removes their login, not your records.
Account and billing
"You can only be signed in on one device at a time"
Your account works on any of your devices, just not simultaneously.
Close Dab Hand on the other device and tap Try again. If that device isn't to hand,
wait a few minutes — the other session releases by itself once it stops being used.
I've paid but Professional features are still locked
Open Settings and pull down to refresh, or sign out and back in — the
subscription is tied to your account, so it should follow you. If it still hasn't
applied, email us with the account email address and we'll sort it. Don't buy it
twice.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so they're cancelled
there rather than in the app. On Android: Play Store → profile → Payments and
subscriptions. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the
renewal; you keep Professional until the end of the period you've paid for, and your
data isn't touched — you just return to the free plan's limits.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by the store you bought it from, not by us. Google:
Play Store → Order history → Report a problem. Apple:
reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn't
affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
I've forgotten my password
Tap "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a
reset link. If you originally signed up with Google or Apple you won't have a
password — use the same button you signed up with.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account, inside the app. Everything goes: jobs,
customers, quotes, invoices, photos, time sessions and profile. Full detail on the
delete account page. Remember to cancel your
subscription separately, since Apple and Google hold the billing.
Data and photos
I've lost my photos, or they're not loading
Check Settings first: Dab Hand can be set to clear photos from
completed jobs after a number of months. If that's set to "never" and photos still
aren't loading, it's usually a connection problem — the job details themselves load
from a smaller request than the images do. Email us if it persists.
Is my data backed up?
Your work is stored in your account rather than only on the handset,
so a lost or replaced phone doesn't lose it — sign in on the new one and it's there.
We'd still suggest keeping your own records of anything you can't afford to lose,
particularly invoices and anything you need for tax.
Where is my data stored?
On servers in the United Kingdom. We don't sell it, we don't show adverts
and we don't track you across other apps. The
privacy policy sets out exactly what's collected, who
processes it and how long it's kept.
