Dab Hand and QuickBooks

Send the invoices you raise in Dab Hand straight to your own QuickBooks, and see which ones have been paid.

Dab Hand is a mobile app. Connecting, reconnecting and disconnecting all happen inside the app on your phone or tablet — there is nothing to sign in to on this website. This page is here to show you where those controls are. If you haven't got the app yet, download it here.

Connecting to QuickBooks

Available to the account owner on a Professional subscription. Only a QuickBooks admin can approve the connection.

  1. Open Dab Hand and go to Settings → Accounting software.
  2. Tap Connect QuickBooks. Your browser opens so you can sign in to Intuit directly — Dab Hand never sees your QuickBooks password.
  3. Choose the company you want to connect, and approve.
  4. Back in the app, choose which QuickBooks item and VAT codes your invoices should use. This decides where the money lands in your accounts, so it is worth setting before you send your first invoice.

After that, every invoice gets a Send to QuickBooks option. Nothing is sent automatically — you choose, invoice by invoice.

Reconnecting

A connection can lapse. QuickBooks retires access that has gone unused for around 100 days, and you may have withdrawn it from the QuickBooks side. Either way Dab Hand notices and stops rather than failing quietly.

  1. Go to Settings → Accounting software. If the connection needs renewing, the screen says so.
  2. Tap Reconnect and sign in to Intuit again.

Your item and VAT settings are kept, so there is nothing to set up a second time — unless you connect a different company, in which case Dab Hand asks again, because those settings belong to the company that was connected.

Disconnecting

  1. Go to Settings → Accounting software.
  2. Tap Disconnect and confirm.

Dab Hand immediately withdraws its access at Intuit's end and deletes the stored connection from our servers. Deleting your Dab Hand account does the same thing automatically. You can also remove Dab Hand from the QuickBooks side, under your Intuit account's connected apps — if you do, the app shows a Reconnect button next time rather than failing silently.

Disconnecting is not an undo. Invoices already sent to QuickBooks stay in your books, as they should — they are your records. If you want one removed, remove it in QuickBooks. Disconnecting only stops anything further being sent, and stops us checking whether your invoices have been paid.

What Dab Hand sends and reads

Sends, only when you tap send on a specific invoice: its number and date, your customer's name, address and email, each line's description and amount, the VAT treatment and the totals. If your customer isn't already in QuickBooks, we create them.

Reads, when you open your invoice list: whether the invoices we sent there have been paid. Nothing else — not your accounts, not your bank feeds, and nothing about invoices or customers that did not come from Dab Hand.

Never: we do not delete anything in your books, and we do not record payments in them. Marking an invoice paid in Dab Hand changes the app, not your accounts.
